Northern Travis County, TX Apartment Fire Leaves 14 Residents Homeless

On Wednesday, April 13, 2011, a two-alarm fire destroyed a Texas apartment building around 12:30 p.m., and left 14 people homeless after this Northern Travis County apartment fire.

The fire department was called at 12:42 p.m. and arrived soon after to the Arbors of Wells Branch apartment building at 1831 West Wells Branch Parkway, where they found building number five was on fire. Firefighters from Pflugerville and Austin arrived on scene, and within one hour, they had the fire about 90% contained.

One dog was rescued, as firefighters saw that it was trapped inside an apartment. They gave the dog oxygen and returned it to its owner. Another animal rescue occurred when an apartment tenant ran upstairs to get her cat out of the building. Thankfully, there was no loss of human life or any injuries in this fire.

Victims of this Texas apartment fire lost their clothes, furniture, photos, personal belongings, and everything else dear to them. Some of these tenants were moved to other units and apartment complexes.

Fire officials did indicate that the building that burned did not have a sprinkler system installed, as the building was at least 25 years old. However, each of the 12 units that burned down did have a working fire alarm.

Investigators thought the fire started on the third floor, but the exact cause has not been determined as of yet. The fire damage is estimated at $456,000.
