Texas Tops the List for States with Most Wind, Hail Damage Claims

Hail and high winds pound many communities across the majority of states in our nation; however, some states generally endure more property damages from hail and windstorms than others. Unfortunately, wind and hail storms are some of the most frequent weather events that occur and also cause a large amount of property damages.

State Farm Insurance recently released a top 10 list with the names of the states that had the most wind and hail losses in 2012. At the top of the list sits Texas for the most hail and wind damage claims filed last year. According to the report, there were 47,000 claims from State Farm policyholders in Texas in 2012, for wind and hail damages.

The top 10 list includes:

  • Texas with 47,000 claims
  • Illinois with 41,000 claims
  • New York with 34,000 claims
  • Ohio with 31,000 claims
  • Missouri with 25,000 claims
  • Tennessee with 24,000 claims
  • Indiana with 23,000 claims
  • New Jersey ties with Indiana at 23,000 claims
  • Kentucky with 22,000 claims
  • Colorado and Pennsylvania tie at 16,000 claims

Hail and windstorm losses nationwide totaled $3.9 billion last year, according to State Farm. Although the insurance company stated that the Midwest and Great Plains are most susceptible to losses, hail and high winds can happen in any state at any time.

I think that these numbers are shocking because it seems like Texas would never get hail storms, but they do more than you think. There was a pretty bad hail storm recently,so one of things that I did after a hail storm is to get the best hail damage repair possible. Make sure you are going with people that you trust and got a referral from because if they did fine work for you or someone else, than they will do a fine job fixing your damages as well. Make sure you take pictures of all of the damage that has been done in order to be covered for the damages that were done.
