State Farm Intends to Non-Renew Thousands of Texas Homeowners Policies
Although homeowners may not have received a non-renewal notice in the mail, customers living in Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Jefferson and Orange Counties should check with their agents to find out if State Farm sill plans to insure their homes.
There are an estimated 11,000 homeowners in the coastal counties affected who have been insured with State Farm and will need to look elsewhere to get their homes insured.
Many customers understand why a company would chose to not insure homes that sit right along the Gulf of Mexico, but they are stunned to find out State Farm will not insure homes that are nine miles inland or more.
State Farm customer John Hudspeth said, “I feel like I’m being ripped off, I feel like this is another case of the American, hard working people being ripped off by a giant corporation.” His neighbor John Courts said, “I paid almost 20 years for them to cover me in premiums. Now all of a sudden they are going to back out, drop me?”
The Texas Department of Insurance announced that they will look into the decision Sate Farm has recently made to not renew policies in this area.
