In this edition of the weekly insurance claim update, we will take a look at the wildfires, their cause, and how you can safeguard your home.
This time of year is prime for wildfires. High temperatures, little rain, and high wind create the perfect cocktail for them to thrive on. Once started, wildfires can spread quickly across dry grass, trees, and other vegetation, often jumping gaps such as, rivers and roads, and changing directions quickly. Because of this, wildfires are difficult to get under control.
In the U.S. alone, there are between 60,000 and 80,000 wildfires a year, destroying 3 million to 10 million acres. From forest to hillsides, to crops, to homes, wildfire knows no bounds.
There are ways to safeguard your house, crops, and other assets from wildfires. Begin by clearing brush, dead leaves, and other flammable objects from around your home, barn, shed, and other buildings. This is known as "creating defensible space". Make sure that this space is a circle at least 30ft and up to 100ft around your buildings. Trim limbs that are overhanging your roof, clean gutters, and remove any firewood that is stacked against your house.
So this wildfire season, make sure your home and property are safe and insured. If you have been denied, underpaid, or have any questions concerning wildfires and your home or crop insurance, contact The Voss Law Firm at 1-888-614-7730. We are here to help you!
