Texas Fire Reveals Importance of Renters Insurance
A neighbor started knocking on everyone's doors telling people to evacuate the building, and thankfully everyone escaped without any injuries.
Fire officials believe the fire was caused by lightning during a thunderstorm. When firefighters arrived on scene they were faced with a challenge because they couldn't use their ladders on the two-story building due to the lightning concerns.
More than 40 firefighters fought this two-alarm fire throughout the night and into Friday morning. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical care.
There were 12 adults and two children who lost their homes and almost all of their belongings. Jake Lieman, a teacher, visited the site with others to see if he could find anything of his that was recognizable. He was one of the 14 residents who lost almost everything in the fire, and sadly he did not have renter's insurance.
Although the American Red Cross is assisting those in need and Hunter's Way officials are placing residents into other vacant units, most of these people lost everything in the fire and do not have insurance.
