Last September, thousands of homes were destroyed in the Bastrop County wildfire. One of those homes belonged to a filmmaker who has deep Central Texas roots. For almost a year, Linklater has attempted to collect on his $239,000 policy by Truck Insurance Group (part of Farmers Insurance Group), but has been unsuccessful. He has now filed a lawsuit against his insurance company for denying his Bastrop fire claim and is accusing his insurer of refusing to pay his property damages.
Linklater lost film memorabilia, wardrobe and set pieces, and audio and video recordings, along with many other valuable personal belongings in the fire. All told, the lost items value around $500,000. However, his insurance company won’t pay the filmmaker his full policy value of $239,000.
