The answer is NO! You are actually a participant in one of the greatest football games of all times - the insurance“football” game!
In the game of football there are two opposing teams trying to score touchdowns. The game is comprised of four (4) quarters and many series of downs in each quarter.
The Insurance game can be easily compared to the game of football. On one side of the ball you have the carrier and their adjuster (defense). On the other side of the ball you have the policyholder (offense). Let the game begin!
Just as football has a series of downs that make up a quarter, the insurance football game has its own individual actions that make up the claims process. Each one of these actions will have an offense and a defense (and there can be only one winner).
These important actions include: filing the claim, adjusting the claim, claims history, property maintenance, type and options of the policy, and settling of the claim.
Unfortunately, many times when the policyholder finally realizes the carrier is not always on their team, it is too late! The carrier is very skilled in this “football game.” The insurance carrier has been playing the game for a long time, and has used the time tested tactics of underpayment, denial, and delaying of claims with precision and accuracy!
Wait a minute! How can this be? Well, it is a matter of profit and loss. The carriers take in huge profits every year, in the form of premiums collected. These premiums are offset by their losses (claims paid). And this year, there has been an over abundance in losses via weather events (as discussed in VLF earlier blogs). Their end game, is to protect their premiums collected at all costs!
This is accomplished through the time tested tactics discussed above. One might say, “The odds seem unfair! The carriers have deep pockets and very cunning lobbyist in Washington.” This might seem true on the surface. However there is a skilled quarterback in the game that has won many, many times against the carriers and their tactics of deny, delay, and underpayment of claims.
This skilled quarterback is the "Aaron Rodgers" of the insurance industry and is readily available to the policyholder to quarterback the game on behalf of the policyholder.
This Aaron Rodgers of the insurance industry, goes by the name “policyholder attorney.”
The qualified seasoned policyholder attorney can, and has beaten the carriers at their game many times - obtaining a fair and accurate recovery for the policyholder.
This is why it is important to consult with a reputable policyholder attorney when filing a claim, and especially if your claim has been denied, delayed, or underpaid.
