Rare Red Flag Warning For Houston

Houston has been placed under a red flag warning today, Wednesday March 30, 2022, from 1p.m until 7p.m. This alert has been issued by The National Weather Service and is due to gusty winds and very dry air. The warning is said to be rare, according to fox26houston.com

According to fox7austin.com, “A red flag warning is issued when fire conditions reach a certain criteria where fire rapid or explosive spread is possible.” They are usually only issued during the Spring and Fall fire weather seasons, which are February 15-April 30 and October 1-December 15.

Though we had thunderstorms earlier this morning, it is expected that water from the rainfall will quickly evaporate and the strong winds that are predicted later this afternoon could help ignite any small fire that may begin burning.

Yesterday, the Governor warned residents about these potentially detrimental fire conditions. He also told residents to stay alert and prepare for the severe thunderstorms North Central and East Texas endured last night and this morning.

“With both extreme fire danger and severe storms expected in Texas today and tomorrow, it is important that Texans monitor local weather reports, heed guidance from local officials, and take proper measures to protect life and property.” The Governor said yesterday, Tuesday March 29, 2022. “The State of Texas has been working closely with local officials to respond to dangerous conditions created by wildfires and is prepared to respond to any emergencies that may arise with severe weather.”, (fox26houston.com).
