Winter Storm Landon has passed through Texas. Although not nearly as bad as the Winter Freeze of 2021, freezing temperatures remain and will continue to stay for a period of time.
The storm has caused hazardous travel conditions in North Texas. Power lines are down, trees have been blown over, limbs are scattered about.
“Multiple crashes occurred on a northbound stretch of Interstate 10 near Kerrville, Texas, leaving hundreds of drivers in a standstill for hours. KENS-TV reported that the interstate became blocked late Thursday night and remained closed Friday morning,” according to weather.com.
The article continues, “ Temperatures plunged to 19 degrees in Kerrville overnight, with wind chills dipping below zero while drivers attempted to stay warm in their vehicles. The incident occurred about 60 miles northwest of San Antonio.”
The storm caused power outages stemming from Texas all the way to New York. According to PowerOutage.us, more than 300,000 homes and business lost power.
Sadly, three deaths are connected to Winter Storm Landon. According to weather.com “one weather Wednesday in a weather-related accident along Sandia Crest Road in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, just east of Albuquerque. The driver of an 18- wheeler died in a crash on Interstate 45 in Dallas Wednesday night. The death was connected to the weather. On the warm side of this storm system, one person died in Hale County, Alabama, when a tornado struck near the town of Sawyerville Thursday afternoon.”
