Potential Tropical Cyclone Two is currently located to the east-southeast of the Windward Islands, and environmental conditions are presently favorable for the system to continue developing into a tropical depression or tropical storm. A Hurricane Hunter aircraft investigated the system this afternoon and found that it has sustained winds of tropical storm force; however, it has not yet developed a closed circulation.

When cyclone formation is imminent, residents in the vicinity of the Windward Islands should monitor local news outlets and official Hurricane Center advisories, take appropriate preparations for potential impacts including heavy rains and flooding, strong winds, and storm surge, and heed any evacuations that may be ordered. The Hurricane Center will continue to monitor this system closely and update advisories accordingly. At present, the system is forecast to move west across the southern Caribbean Sea Wednesday through Friday.
How Likely is it to Strengthen?
Hurricane conditions appear to be looming in the near future as Potential Tropical Cyclone Two continues to gather strength. Currently, maximum sustained winds are at 40 mph, however this is expected to strengthen in the next few days as the disturbance remains over water. If Hurricane conditions do develop, wind speeds could reach up to 75 mph. Right now, tropical-storm-force winds extend outward 60 miles from the center of the disturbance. All of this points to a Hurricane developing off the coast of Central America, though it first has to make its way through the Windward Islands near southern Caribbean Sea. Hurricane warnings could be put into place for this storm system in the coming days.
