A few weeks after a tornado destroyed its building, a New London, Wisconsin, church filed an insurance claim in an effort to receive funds to rebuild its place of worship. Currently, the congregation is holding services at a local high school.
When a severe tornado struck New London on August 7, 2013, the community’s Trinity Lutheran Church was one of the buildings damaged in the severe storm. A large portion of the building’s roof was torn from the structure, exposing the inside of the church to the elements. Everything that could be extracted has been moved to a series of storage units. However, extensive property damage remains and clean-up crews are slowly removing hazards from the building. Pastor Bill Sutlief reported that the foundation was not visibly damaged in the storm, simplifying the rebuilding process.
As the community gears up for rebuilding, the church will welcome insurance agents and building consultants to the property to assess damage and begin plans to repair or replace the place of worship. More information about the rebuilding process will not be available until the New London church files its insurance claim.
Although church officials stress that there is no longer a need for volunteers, it has stated that donations can be made to the Trinity Tornado Relief Fund at any of the branches of First State Bank or Wolf River Community Bank. The church also thanked New London High School, which is hosting Sunday Worship each week in September. Tuesday evening services are being held in the church’s parking lot, weather permitting.
