After homes and vehicles were pummeled in Dallas and other parts of Texas during the month of June, hailstorm insurance claims will cost insurers over $1 billion. Authorities indicate that the number of claims from this Texas storm exceeded over 100,000 claims – including vehicle, residential and commercial insurance claims – and that insured losses will definitely exceed $1 billion.
Golf ball-sized hail was reported in the metro region of Dallas, and up to baseball-sized hail was recorded in Grand Prairie and in east Dallas. Damage from this Texas hailstorm included broken windshields, broken home windows, damaged roofs, damaged landscape, golf course damages, and more. Even the marquee of the landmark Lakewood Theater was damaged.
In that one month alone, hail damages will cost insurers over $1.7 billion, as a separate hail storm in Wyoming and Colorado caused over $700 million in insured losses. Additionally during the month of June, other natural disasters occurred that included the Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado; these cost hundreds of millions of dollars in insured losses as well.
All of these insurance claims follow $1 billion in insured losses in April that were caused from the Kansas and Texas tornado damage.
When natural disasters occur, homeowners and business owners suffer losses to their properties for which they need to get reimbursed.
