BAPS Charities has presented the Voss Law Firm with an award to recognize the firm's commitment to the community and contribution to the BAPS Walk Green 2018. The Voss Law Firm was proud to put its reputation and credibility behind BAPS, and is honored by its connection to the large network of people trying to do good for the world.
BAPS Charities is an international organization dedicated to helping people in need, working daily to provide education, healthcare, and fun events for children worldwide. In 2017, BAPS volunteers donated 8,000 work hours to provide hot meals and construction materials to Hurricane Harvey victims, while over 23,000 walkers participated in BAPS walkathons in 70 cities across North America to raise funds to plant trees.
The Voss Law Firm became a sponsor of this year’s walkathon after its Senior Policyholder Attorney, Nohayia Javed-Berg, learned about the organization from one of her longtime clients. The client recognized the firm’s history of giving back to the community, and mentioned that the annual walkathon would take place in Sugarland, Texas in the spring. When Javed-Berg related the details of the charity and the event to Bill Voss, he was very interested in helping to sponsor the event.
On Sunday, April 29, 2018, thousands of walkers gathered to take part in the walkathon, raising funds for The Nature Conservancy and other charitable activities organized by BAPS Charities. Participants included Nohayia Javed-Berg and David Voss and their spouses, lending their efforts to the walkathon in addition to the firm’s financial support. The Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees initiative will directly benefit from the funds raised, offsetting the costs of planting 130,000 trees in 2018. It is The Nature Conservancy’s goal to plant one billion new trees by 2025, restoring over 1.6 million acres of land.
BAPS Walk Green is in its third year of donating funds to The Nature Conservancy, and annually gathers support and sponsorships from local businesses for its event. The walkathon gives family members of all ages a chance to connect with their communities, as well as the opportunity to support the preservation of nature for future generations.
