Billings Mutual Insurance Criticized for Denied Insurance Claims

Posted on Sep 18, 2013

A couple in St. Peters, Missouri, is battling their homeowners insurance company for the money they need to rebuild their home. A violent storm severely damaged their home on May 31.

According to St. Louis news reports, the Corbett family has been living in a motel for months with their two children. They are fighting Billings Mutual Insurance for enough money to make the repairs they need to move home. The family was huddled in their basement as a storm tore through the area and badly damaged their home. Many of their neighbor’s houses were demolished. They have received two quotes for repairs: one for $79,000 and one for $59,000. The insurance company is offering them $15,000 on their claim.

The storm ripped off the side of the home, ruining the house’s drywall and wood floors. The house was condemned by St. Charles County. They family says that even if the insurance company sends them their claim money, it won’t be enough to repair their home.

This is not the first time that Billings Mutual Insurance has been accused of bad faith and other claims issues. In July, a Sikeston couple filed a lawsuit against the insurance company after Billings agreed to pay for only part of a damaged roof. After the couple sued, the insurance company settled the matter out of court. This spring, another Missouri couple sued the insurance company after it delayed their claim for so long that the couple arranged for repairs themselves.
