A new report published by Allstate Insurance Company reveals the three days that have the highest number of burglaries in the state of Texas. The insurance company based its information on customer reports of burglaries across the state between 2010 and 2012. Currently, the insurance company covers homeowners’ insurance for 545,000 residences in Texas, more than one in ten households.
According to the research, the three top days for burglaries are August 10, October 1, and January 1. Although we can only guess as to why these three days see more home insurance claims than others, experts believe that there are patterns for when many break-ins occur. New Year’s Day probably sees many people staying the night away from their homes. August is a popular summer vacation month.
How can this information help homeowners prevent a future break-in? As you can see, robberies often happen when homeowners are away from their property overnight. Knowing this information, you can help protect your home from theft by making sure your home is locked and that the alarm is on when you leave. In addition, be sure to have a friend or neighbor watch your home, collect your mail, and keep up your yard. Finally, be sure to only selectively tell friends, acquaintances, and neighbors that you will be out of town. Do not announce an upcoming trip on a social network or blog.
