Weather, stolen art work, and a popular chain faces legal battles ahead; the past week as been a busy one for Insurance Claims and news. The weather has been especially frigied these past few weeks in part of the United States: continued winter weather conditions throughout much of the Midwest, North and Southeast will likely lead to a spike in claims. Art Frauds Not Protected by Insurance
A famous painting stolen from the Herbert Arnot Gallery was recovered from a gallery in Miami. The owner had purchased the painting from another party. "La Porte St. Denis’ by Antoine Blanchard (1910-1988) was one of more than 3,000 paintings stolen over a 12 year period by Lois Edelmann who was caught and convicted.
Many of the paintings were not recovered so the effort continues. This brings up an interesting situation for those that paid good money for paintings, had them insured, and are now finding out that their ownership is false.
Restaurant Chain Faces Upwards Legal Battle
Chain restaurant, Chipotle is facing claims regarding their food safety breaches. Many people became sick from E Coli after eating at the restaurants. Claims are mounting and the Center For Disease Control has launched a probe investigation regarding the outbreak.
Gas Prices Affect Auto Claims
Car insurance provider AllState has experienced a 41% decline in quarterly profits due to the amount of claims. Lower gas prices have led to more driving and thus more accidents where a claim is filed. This could mean higher premiums if the trend continues. Slower claims processing could also result.
